Veena Madan

Educator and Community Leader

Veena Madan migrated to Adelaide SA from India in the year 1992. She is a dedicated and accomplished educator for last 25 years in secondary schools in South Australia and has been involved in community engagement and leadership.

Currently as the President of the Indian Australian Association of South Australia (IAASA), Veena has successfully organised and led numerous cultural events, fostering community spirit and cultural understanding. For enhancing social cohesion and support, Veena has a strong track record of organising community programmes including seniors programmes for the Indian community. Her strong communication skills, deep understanding of multicultural dynamics and commitment to inclusivity have made her a respected leader in the community.

Veena is a member Women’s Committee in the Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia (MCCSA), advocating and supporting women’s right and empowerment and cultural diversity.

In addition to this Veena is a member of the Governing Council at Roma Mitchell Secondary College. She actively contributes to the strategic planning and decision-making processes, collaborates with other council members and the wider school community. In the past she has been on the Foundation Board of St. Andrews Primary School and was involved in fundraising activities and the organising of fundraising functions.

Ranielson Santana

Inclusion Advocate & Community Leader

Ranielson Santana is a multicultural community leader and advocate committed to strengthening inclusion and participation across culturally diverse communities in Australia. Originally from Recife, Brazil, he migrated to Australia in 2018 as an international student and has since become actively involved in community leadership, supporting migrants and international students to successfully settle and connect with their communities.

Gill is an inspirational leader who feels the pulse of her community in Hackham West and the hardship it faces as a low socio-economic area ranking in the top 3 percentile of disadvantaged suburbs nationally, with significant levels of disadvantage across a myriad of social indicators.

Alexandra is a dedicated and passionate advocate for social justice, community service and environmental sustainability, demonstrating active citizenship and enhancement of community life through various platforms, both within and without her school.

Kylan Beech

Young Citizen of the Year 2024

Just before Kylan Beech’s 14th birthday, he lost his mother, Tammy, to cancer. Rather than focusing on his grief, Kylan became determined to help ensure others would not have to experience the same tragedy.

Stella Braund uses her lived experience of childhood domestic violence and sexual assault -at home and in institutional settings – to improve people’s lives.

Nasir Hussain is a diversity advocate & President of the Muslim Australian Connections of South Australia (MACSA). Since migrating to Australia in 2006, Nasir has devoted himself to strengthening ties between Muslim communities and the broader Australian society.
