Nasir Hussain

Citizen of the Year 2023 - City of Charles Sturt

Since migrating to Australia in 2006, Nasir has devoted himself to strengthening ties between Muslim communities and the broader Australian society. With a strong passion for connecting, empowering people and fostering mutual understanding, Nasir consistently demonstrates his core values of inclusion, respect, and professional integrity (whether in paid or voluntary roles)

In 2018, he established the Muslim Australian Connections of South Australia (MACSA), a not-for-profit organisation aimed at supporting the settlement and integration of newly arrived Muslims and international students from around the World. Through MACSA, Nasir actively promotes volunteering, empowerment and capacity building initiatives, ensuring that his efforts benefit all members of the South Australian community, regardless of faith, culture, ethnicity, or background.

Nasir is a long-standing board member of the Multicultural Communities Council of SA Inc. since 2018 and a founding member of the MCCSA Men’s Council. He is always at the forefront in community-led initiatives and fundraising efforts, recently raising $36,000 to provide an accessible vehicle for a young person living with a Cerebral Palsy,

Nasir holds a Master of Social Work from Flinders University. His ongoing and impactful contributions to promoting inclusion, multiculturalism, social cohesion and diversity  for the benefit all Australians have been recognised through several prestigious awards:

Glyn Scott

Founder, Love Hope & Gratitude Foundation, 2024 SA Senior Australian Of The Year Nominee

Glyn Scott survived years of violence and sexual abuse – first as a child and later in her first marriage. In 2006, Glyn gave evidence to the Children in State Care Commission of Inquiry about her childhood experience of sexual abuse.
