Ishaan demonstrates exceptional active citizenship through his leadership, advocacy, and strategic contributions within national and local medical student networks, directly enhancing student engagement, health equity, and community outcomes. He has made a major community impact through his work on rural Indigenous healthcare access and has contributed significantly to educational equity by providing over $5,000 worth of ongoing free tutoring in mathematics, science, and English to students experiencing financial hardship.  

Ishaan has volunteered with St John Ambulance SA, delivering first-aid support at community events across South Australia. He serves as the Youth Representative for the Indian Bengali Association of Adelaide (IBCAA), is the National Secretary of the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA), the peak body representing over 20,000 medical students across all 25 Australian medical schools, and contributes through his leadership in Flinders Fights Cancer (FFC) and the Flinders University Rural Health Society (FURHS). He has been involved in fundraising and volunteer coordination, helping raise thousands of dollars for initiatives such as the Childhood Cancer Association. He has also supported health literacy outreach in rural communities through rural high school visits.  

 All of these contributions were made while Ishaan was only 16 years old and undertaking his first year of medical school.
