Australia Day in the City - General
WHEN AND WHERE
The Australia Day Parade commences at 6pm from Franklin St with the Military March and Band officially kicking off the celebrations in Adelaide.
Over 3,000 people will march North in the Parade along King William Street, joining in on the festivities at Elder Park where a huge Australia Day Concert will begin just after 7:00pm! The Australia Day Concert will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display!
Australia Day in the City is held on the 26 January each year.
Elder Park is located on King William Road, next to the Adelaide Festival Centre on the River Torrens.
Getting to Australia Day in the City-Parade, Concert & Fireworks is easy on Adelaide Metropolitan public transport. With major bus, train and tram stops within walking distance of Elder Park, make the smart move and hop on a bus, train or tram. UPark is offering Australia Day in the City patrons $7.00 flat rateparking at all UParks.
Closest UPark to Elder Park is UPark on Gawler Place, which will remain open until midnight on the day.

No public parking will be available on the Torrens Parade Grounds – this area is reserved for event logistics.
Remember to plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to travel.
Australia Day is usually a very sunny and warm day. Australia Day in the City will continue unless there are dangerous weather conditions. You can check our Twitter feed or Facebook page for updates leading up to the event.
Please remember to Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
First Aid will be onsite for the event.
A range of food and beverages from a wide range of multicultural backgrounds is available at Australia Day in the City, with stalls to suit all tastes.
Toilets are located at two main points – at the Elder Park café and at the Northern end of the park near the river/bridge.
The Coopers Bar operates from 5pm near the Rotunda. The rest of Elder Park is a dry area after 8pm. No glass is permitted in Elder Park. Proof of age will be required for alcohol purchases. Please remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Guests are welcome to bring rugs and low-level chairs during the day. Please note that the use of pegs and ground sheets is not authorised. The Council has some irrigation lines quite close to the ground surface. Directly in front of the stage usually becomes standing room only once the concert begins. If you would like to sit and watch the event, the best spot is further back.
The first point of contact for all parents looking for lost children should be the lost children’s booth located on the Eastern end of the Park near King William Road. Please assist Security by writing your mobile number on your children’s arm so we can contact you quickly.
Australia Day in the City has a dedicated accessible parking area available in the Torrens Parade Grounds, please ensure your permit is clearly visible to gain access. Please ensure that you are in the car park before 5:15pm to avoid road closures.
Franklin Street, between King William Street and Eliza Street (including side streets), will be closed from 2:30pm to 7:30pm
A rolling road closure will occur on King William Street between 6pm and 7pm between Franklin Street and North Terrace
A road closure will occur on King William Street between 6:00pm and 11:00pm between North Terrace and War Memorial Drive.
The tram service will terminate at Victoria Square and Adelaide Railway Station between 5:40pm and 7:30pm
